Chad English

Rocket scientist, business & technology advisor, professor, rock climber, home renovator, and exhausted father of three boys who love space, rockets, and LEGO™.

I have a Ph.D. from Carleton University's Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering with education focused on emergent dynamic behaviours of nonlinear and complex systems, system modeling, space systems, biomechanics, and a bit of game theory economics, with a thesis applied to robotics and biomimicry.

I worked in the space & defence industry for 13+ years including assembling the International Space Station, inspecting space shuttles on orbit, building automated rendezvous & docking systems, and automatic target recognition and tracking, with expertise in machine vision-based intelligence, particularly in the aerospace & defence industries. Experienced in Project Management, Business Development, organizational and process diagnosis and development, and R&D and new product development.

I was a member of, and led, the Aerospace Sector Team at the National Research Council’s Industrial Research Assistance Program, where I am an Industrial Technology Advisor with a focus on space markets, 3D imaging systems, machine learning/vision, geospatial intelligence, innovation program structures, and Beyond Visual Line of Sight UAVs. I also discovered a 25th hour of the day in which I manage to occasionally teach a graduate course in aerospace engineering at Carleton University.
