Karen Michell

Executive Director

Karen Michell joined the Council of Academic Hospitals of Ontario (CAHO) as Executive Director in October 2009, working with the CEOs of the province’s 24 research hospitals to champion their value as the research and development arm of Ontario’s health care system.  Over the past six years, Karen has been instrumental in advancing the stability of and investment in the health research enterprise and has solidly positioned Ontario’s research hospitals as key drivers in Ontario’s growing knowledge-based economy. Through strategic collaborations, Karen enabled the creation of the Adopting Research to Improve Care (ARTIC) Program, and its sustainable future in partnership with Health Quality Ontario.

Prior to joining CAHO, Karen spent 14 years at the Canadian Bankers Association, most recently as the Vice President, Banking Operations. In that capacity, Karen worked with senior decision makers in government and senior executives in the banks to develop policies and regulations that contributed to a safe and efficient banking sector in Canada.

Karen has a Masters degree in International Affairs from the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs at Carleton University and a BA in International Relations from the University of Toronto.
