Margaret McCuaig-Johnston is Senior Fellow at both the Institute for Science, Society and Policy at the University of Ottawa and the China Institute at the University of Alberta where she has publishing and advising on China’s science, technology and innovation.

Over a 37 career, Margaret served in senior management positions in the Governments of Canada and Ontario, most recently in Assistant Deputy Minister positions at the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council, Natural Resources Canada, and Department of Finance. Prior to that she held management positions at Industry Canada, the Prime Minister’s National Advisory Board on Science and Technology, the Ministry of State for S&T, and the Privy Council Office, primarily positions related to S&T policies, programs and funding. Margaret holds an MA in International Relations with a focus on China, and an Honours BA in Political Economy.  She is also on the Board of the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory – SNOLAB.
